- Members may obtain other general commodities on the backhaul. Included are members located coast-to-coast and in Canada. Some are national, regional or local.
- Both cartoned and blanket-wrap carriers are represented. Virtually none have packaging specifications in their rules' tariffs.

- The SFCA was formed in 1986 - An association of some 50 specialized furniture carriers whose furniture revenue represents "a significant portion of their operating revenue."
- 100% of revenue on the outbound haul is furniture or furniture related.
- Very few are participants in the National Motor Freight Classification. Some are Less Than Truckload, some Truckload and other a combination of the two.
- LTL shipments are only handled through one terminal.
